Selenium based Solar cells for both space and terrestrial applications.

Researcher’s at Glenn Research Center, NASA are using Selenium as a bonding adhesive between wafers of the multijunction high efficiency space based solar cells to achieve maximum efficiencies from 30% to 40% which can be proved to be a breakthrough in the energy conversion Photo Voltaic. Selenium is proved to be a unique semiconductor such that it is transparent at the Irradiation Photon level which allows the Sun light to pass the multilayers of the solar cell for Electron-Hole formation. Selenium has also provided the existing Space solar cells more Robust nature with reduction in the cost of manufacturing.
